More details included in the technical documentationEmulators are one part of a testing strategy. You’ll still need physical devices or a device cloud for tests that require real hardware.
No. Orka is Kubernetes-native, but you don’t have to work in Kubernetes directly. Most teams start with the Orka CLI, the REST API, or a CI plugin, and use kubectl only if they want to.
Orka has free, open-source plugins for Azure DevOps, Buildkite, Drone, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, Packer, and TeamCity. Other tools can connect through the Orka REST API.
Orka runs on MacStadium’s private cloud, on AWS EC2 Macs, or on your own Mac hardware. You can mix local and cloud Macs in one environment, and Orka works the same wherever it’s deployed.
Yes. MacStadium can create a private offer in AWS Marketplace that you accept and pay through your AWS account.
Teams can mix and match any Apple silicon machines to create custom clusters that are optimized for their specific workloads.
Each node runs up to two (2) macOS VMs. Apple’s macOS license sets that limit, and it applies to every company that virtualizes macOS.
Android emulators don’t count toward it. They run directly on the node next to your macOS VMs, so the number you can run depends only on the node’s CPU and memory. Adding Android test capacity doesn’t mean giving up iOS build slots.
Yes. Orka creates a fresh macOS VM for each job and destroys it when the job finishes, so every build starts from a clean, known image instead of a machine that has drifted.
Orka uses OCI-compliant images that you store in the registry of your choice and share across environments. Images are thin-provisioned, and cached images launch in under a second.
Users can access base images on OrkaHub.com
Orka supports custom firewall and networking configuration. MacStadium private clouds include a dedicated firewall that your team configures, with VPN and IP allowlisting. Portal access supports SAML single sign-on.
With bare metal, you manage each Mac individually and builds share long-lived machines. Orka pools your Macs into one cluster, schedules jobs across it, and gives each job a fresh VM.

MacStadium is dedicated to building software for the Kubernetes community that is consistent, reliable, and interoperable. To demonstrate our commitment, Orka Platform has been certified by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Certified Kubernetes Conformance Program.
